Dr. Heiko Jopp
Chief Technology Officer, Investment Manager
Dr. Heiko Jopp holds a doctorate in mechanical engineering. After completing his doctorate at the University of Kaiserslautern, he began his career in chemical plant engineering and developed into a manager with personnel responsibility. He is characterized by his great technical expertise and entrepreneurial know-how – especially with regard to due diligence and post-merger processes. Most recently, he worked as head of department and deputy head of engineering for a company in the petrochemical plant construction sector. As part of a post-merger process, he successfully integrated two geographically dispersed business units into the existing engineering organization.
Heiko Jopp joined the Abacus alpha team in September 2020. In his role as CTO, he evaluates technological developments at existing investments as well as potential investments, identifies synergy potential and is active in scouting new fields of technology.
As an investment manager, he brings this perspective to the selection and evaluation of technology-oriented companies – with a particular focus on forward-looking business models in the industrial environment.
As an investment partner, he currently supports the companies Autec Softwareentwicklung & Hardwareplanung GmbH and VinRoc Solutions GmbH. With his deep understanding of technical processes and a keen sense of strategic development, he provides his portfolio companies with targeted support in creating stable structures and leveraging long-term potential.
In his free time, Heiko Jopp mainly enjoys making music – he plays the clarinet and trumpet.

“My passion for music, whether as a soloist on the clarinet, in the trombone choir with the trumpet or in the band, is far more than just a hobby for me. It teaches me teamwork, precision and creative thinking – skills that flow directly into my professional role as CTO and Investment Manager at Abacus alpha. Just like in an orchestra, where every instrument has to play together in harmony, I work to successfully orchestrate technologies, strategies and people. The discipline and emotional intelligence that I develop through music help me to find innovative solutions as well as to communicate complex topics in an understandable way. Music and work inspire each other and define me as a leader and a person.”
